Azurite and Malachite with Chrysocolla
This beautiful material originates from the Bluebird mine in Globe and the Bisbee mine near Bisbee, Arizona, USA. Neither mine has been in operation for many years. This material is available in a rough finish. The colour range is blues and greens with occasional inclusions of white, red and black. The red is cuprite, a rare mineralized form of copper. The Mohs hardness is 4. We have this beautiful material available in natural, unstabilized form as well as stabilized.
Much of this material is prone to stress fractures, so it is the minority that comes out of the earth with a high enough level of silication to prevent the stress fractures. The material with a lower level of natural silication is stabilized to provide the structural integrity necessary to withstand cutting and carving. Azurite and Malachite with Chrysocolla Natural
A great material coming from Arizona, this natural, unstabilized azurite and malachite with chrysocolla has been hardened by Nature, with a higher level of silication, preventing most of the stress fractures common to this material when it has a lower level of natural silication. This material lends itself to beautiful cabochons and other jewelry applications, due to its unusual patterns. Also good for carving and bead making.
Azurite and Malachite with Chrysocolla Stabilized
A great material for carving or cabbing, this stabilized azurite and malachite with chrysocolla, takes a fabulous polish. Much of the azurite/malachite that is mined in Arizona is prone to stress fractures due to a lower amount of natural silication taking place, so it is stabilized. This lends it the structural integrity it needs to withstand cutting or carving. We also offer this material with a higher level of silication, allowing it to remain in its natural form and still hold up to the processes of cutting or carving.
